Cohearence:
An Organised Way to Debate
February - May 2023
In times when opinions have become heavily polarized, older school-going children and the youth tend to casually adopt viewpoints from the media they are exposed to. It is understandable that uncertainty and absence of information are unsettling to many. Hence adopting dichotomous opinions by listening to discussions & debates on social media is an easy way to feed one’s curiosity. But the process of independent thought involves a rigorous inquiry and embracing the phrase “I don’t know”, which can greatly refine one’s understanding of the universe. Most discussions that happen today involve simplified expressions of rhetoric. These dialogues have only been reduced to pure entertainment rather than a source of knowledge and understanding. These “debates” not only polarise people further into their silos of belief without reason but also kills any further curiosity.
In such a time, a structured conversation that draws inspiration from an academic discussion would expose the audience to the scientific method of analyzing any subject. A lens that would help one to critically and independently frame their opinion. Cohearence is a debating tool that helps in forming independent thought and to have meaningful debates based on scientific thinking. The tool structures and gamifies debates to achieve greater clarity not just for the contestants but also for the audience. Emphasis shall be given to important debate elements like logical consistency and fallacies in arguments, agreements, refutations and negations in point of view between the people involved in the discourse.
Cohearence acts as a catalyst that enhances the quality of arguments and assists one to become the voice of reason. Cohearence is the space to have contentious and controversial debates in an objective manner. Debates that can help find a common ground and debates that can change minds. Debates that inch closer towards the truth.
